Graham Manvell is a world class chef, an enthusiastic entrepreneur and has many stories to tell about his successful enterprises. The décor is typically country, the mood is typically country but the quality is typically Manvell. sSs is a world away from the silver service restaurants where Graham won a swag of international awards and yes, he could still write his own ticket in the world of fine dining but the sSs is his dream and way of life and also his way of having fun. sSs BBQ Barn – all appetites catered for Diners at sSs BBQ Barns expect a little country magic and delicious, fresh, local produce. sSs is a wild west dining adventure that has captured the hearts of city and country folk alike. There is no single element that sets the sSs apart - a combination of country smiles and genuine hospitality ensures the restaurants are unique, popular and welcoming. Graham believes that Australia is blessed with the best meat and produce that a chef can possibly choose from. sSs BBQ Barn choice steaks come from prime stock having met his specifications of age and grading to guarantee premium quality. With these exacting standards and Graham's cooking process, a diner is always assured of tenderness on the plate. As you would expect from people like the Manvells, there is more to the menu than thick, tender steaks. Entrees are various (some are spicey), with numerous main meal alternatives (and there are many) and desserts so good they're almost criminal. All meals are served with the hearty taste and size that is the sSs trademark. As good as it is, there is no single formula to the menu. Graham and Marlene are constantly trying something new - just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any better. The latest addition to the menu to test the biggest of appetites is the sSs Beef Shank. Graham laughs as he describes it… "The shank is huge and people find it hard to finish but they're extremely popular" he says. "The secret is in the slow cooking technique, the way it's finished off on the grill and the delicious special barbeque glaze - you have to try it to believe it!" If you can eat an entree and the sSs Beef Shank you are served desert free. If you can polish off the whole meal then your name is duly entered on the ‘Big Shank Honour Roll’ and displayed in the restaurant. Try it … experience it … you'll keep coming back. The Dream becomes reality Graham and Marlene’s vision is to produce a homegrown chain of steakhouses around Australia that cater for a very broad market offering excellent customer service with a little escapism thrown in for good measure. sSs BBQ Barns are now located in Brisbane, Cessnock, Coffs Harbour, Dubbo, Lake Munmorah, Muswellbrook, Port Macquarie, Tamworth and Toowoomba. The first of the Saloons (Tamworth) opened in November 1993 and is forging ahead in a competitive market.
